Ask the Cast and Crew!

This is the first in a series of “Ask the Cast and Crew”

One of the questions we are most frequently asked about our show, The Complete History of America, Abridged, is: What is your favorite part/scene/character?  Answering this week is actor, Ross Martineau:

Our show is so high energy and kinetic- lots of quick costume changes and scene changes.   And I’m a sucker for slapstick, which occurs throughout the show.  BUT- that being said, I’d have to say my favorite part of the play is the Radio Show.  [Spoiler Alert]  We do a ten minute riff on a radio show that covers the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s.  It’s a spoof of the old-timey serial radio shows in the vein of the Lone Ranger or Hopalong Cassidy. There is very little movement, but the writing is So clever and witty, it makes me laugh inside, every week!  I also love that the three of us (Ross and fellow cast members Jeff Demma and Nellie Foster) are on stage the entire time, taking on a cast of madcap characters ranging from Dodge Rambler Boy Buckaroo to Jedger (sic) Hoover to Eva Braun to Rock Fury Super G.I.   F. D. R. makes an appearance and Alan Alda is even referenced for good measure.  It really is a hoot.

I hope you all come see the show!  One of the best things to do on Kauai!  Every Tuesday evening at the Aston Aloha Beach Hotel.  The most fun you can have after dark and still keep your clothes on!

Aloha and I look forward to seeing you Tuesday!

Ross

Not all fun and games (but mostly)

People often ask what we do in our spare time.  Well, Jeff and I are once again hitting the road for the Paradise Ride Kauai 2011 – a 110 mile bike ride on August 6th & 7th.

Paradise Ride Kauai is the major annual fund raising event for Malama Pono – Kauai AIDS Project, established in 1986 as a grass-roots response to HIV on the Garden Isle.

No big song and dance, this is why we are doing it:

Jeff – “Because I can and I want to make a difference. The typical Kauai HIV client served by MP is far less fortunate and relies on the Agency just to make ends meet and get the services, drugs, food, rental assistance, and access to health care they deserve.”

Ross – “Because I think that victory is within our grasp, because there are too many new infections still occurring every year, because it is not with words, but with actions that change finally occurs.”

Things to do on Kauai: Take One

Theatrical comedy on KauaiLooking for a Kauai activity that doesn’t involve sand, sunburns or salt water?  Look no further! The Complete History of America: Abridged, one of London’s longest running comedies, is now on Kauai for the very first time.  This is Kauai dinner theater at it’s best!

About the show

The Complete History of America: Abridged is a 90-minute rollercoaster ride of laughs with three actors running riot through over 500 years of American history. No historical figure is left unmentioned or unscathed: Christopher Columbus, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, George Bush (both of them) – even Lucile Ball. And our take on the Andrews Sisters is hysterical.

The best way to describe the show is to imagine The Three Stooges or The Marx Brothers giving an American history lesson on Saturday Night Live. Funny, silly and fast-paced with lots of quick character and costume changes. Definitely a Kauai theatrical event not to be missed.

About the meal

The evening begins with a sit down, three-course dinner at the Palms Restaurant. This is not a buffet with steamer trays and mediocre food. Everything is made to order.  You’ll get  a choice of an appetizer, one of four entrées including Macadamia Nut Crusted Fresh Catch, Vegetarian Stir Fry Platter, Top Sirloin, or Chicken Penne Pasta, plus a choice of dessert.

When?  Where?

The show is staged in the Aston Aloha Beach Hotel’s Ali’i Room Theater in Kapaa, where the Wailua River meets the sea. Dinner seating is at 5:00 p.m., and show time is 7:00 p.m. – every Tuesday.

This. Is. Fun!  And sure to be a highlight of your Kauai vacation.
